Jimi Hendrix introduced his new group, The Band of Gypsies on New Year's Eve 1969. He was heading into the new decade with a new band and new musical direction he was fine tuning. The live album from this concert is great and really shows Hendrix taking things to the next level, if that's possible. Before he settled down with his old Army buddy bass player Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles, Jimi was playing with a larger ensemble. If you've seen his performance at Woodstock, his band had seven or eight people joining him on percussion and vibes.

When Hendrix dissolved the Experience, he was not getting along with bassist Noel Redding very well, but it seems like his relationship with drummer Mitch Mitchell was still good. Mitchell played with Jimi at Woodstock and on the songs that ended up on the soundtrack for the film Rainbow Bridge. On today's Brizz Record Bin we dive into that album for a great, funky tune, "Dolly Dagger."
