I remember back in college, my roommates and I didn't have a lot of money, so we only had the basic cable service that was provided in our fraternity house. One of the handful of stations we had was ESPN. Back in those days, the sports channel was just getting started, so they didn't have all the big professional leagues to fill their schedule. We were all sports fanatics, so we would watch just about anything.

That's when we discovered Sumo Wrestling. We would even bet on the matches. I think it sort of reminded us of professional wrestling. It's been a long time since those days. Now, that's the kind of sport you would watch on ESPN 8, "The Ocho." I never thought there would be an opportunity to experience it live, but now there is.

The Sumo Championship League is coming to Illinois. Their event is going to be held at the Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago. It's the former U.I.C. Pavilion. It's happening on Saturday, November 7th at 8pm. Tickets are on sale now. The stop in the Windy City is one of three in the United States, including Austin, Texas, and Ontario, California. By the way, if you are looking to join Sumo, they are currently recruiting athletes.
