Long Grove Is Home To Historic Bridge That's Been Involved In Many Accidents

Growing up my family took a lot of weekend day trips. Even though I would've rather been home playing with my friends. I can now appreciate them being as active as they were and getting to experience some interesting people, places, and things.

One place I remember going was Long Grove. It's a neat little town in Illinois that has a bunch of shops and restaurants. One thing that really sticks out in my mind is that you had to cross an old-time-covered bridge to get into the village. It was low so only cars could go through. There was another route for bigger vehicles.

Over the past four years, this historic covered bridge in Long Grove has been on the news several times. That's because bigger vehicles like trucks have gotten into an accident with it. Apparently, the drivers don't know how to read because they ignore the many height restriction signs posted in that area.

The town has stopped keeping track but it has now been struck over fifty times with the latest coming this week. Another truck too big to cross. After the first couple of incidents, the bridge had to be shut down because of serious damage. Now it has been reinforced with steel so the vehicles receive all the damage.

The latest excuse for drivers getting stuck in the bridge is using GPS. Those people say that they were told by the computer that it's safe to cross. That's the same kind of people that will drive into a lake because the computer told them to do it.
