Before the Rockford airport became this successful operation, it had little passenger service. You could catch a puddle jumper to Detroit a couple of days a week, then catch another flight to wherever you wanted to go from there. I did it a couple of times. Once, I just threw my stuff in a duffle bag for a carry-on. I didn't check the pockets, and I ended up having some weed with me. I went from Detroit to Dallas and back again. Luckily, it was before the serious airport security that we have now. If I had been busted, that could've meant a lot of trouble.

Nowadays, in many states, including Illinois, cannabis is legal. Authorities warn you to still not to bring it on an airplane, especially if it's illegal in the state you're traveling to. Plus, marijuana is still illegal federally. Officials now have another warning about traveling with pot. I think residents of Illinois take it for granted that marijuana is legal in our state and don't think it's not legal everywhere, and also about the consequences if they're busted with it in their possession.

It is strongly suggested not to travel out of America with cannabis. The security in the United States isn't super concerned about cannabis because there are many more dangerous issues that they have to worry about, unless you're stupid with it. Many foreign countries have strong laws against cannabis. If you caught it with weed in those places, you could face serious jail time and huge fines. They don't care that pot is legal in Illinois. Your best bet is to just leave it at home.
