A minor league baseball team in Illinois has scheduled a preseason game at a really unique venue that has never been used for that purpose in the past.

The Joliet Slammers To Host Preseason Baseball Game At The Old Joliet Prison

I'm a fan of games being played in unconventional locations. The perfect example is the Winter Classic NHL games that are played at outdoor baseball or football stadiums, so I think this idea is really cool. Especially since the inmates actually played baseball in the courtyard of the prison.

Old Joliet Prison is also a famous old prison. Of course, it's known for being in the "Blues Brothers." They are trying to do different events and tours on the property. I think a minor baseball game there would be awesome.

On Thursday, April 30th, the Joliet Slammers will be locked in the gates of the Old Joliet Prison as they take the field for a one-of-a-kind exhibition game, and this event will serve as the official kickoff to the Route 66 Centennial Celebration with a 3:05pm first pitch.

The exhibition game will adopt the name “The Big House Ballgame” to represent the long history of organized baseball played at the prison.

The Slammers are proud to be a part of a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of the famous Route 66 and excited to help usher in a new era of baseball and community connections in Joliet.
