Rockford Public School all-time rushing record has been broken this season by a Rockford East running back.

I'm a huge fan of sports. I played football when I was a kid and I still enjoy checking it out. I didn't go to school here, so I needed to find a team to support. My daughter goes to East, so the E-Rabs are my adopted high school.

For the past two seasons, I've had the pleasure of watching running back, Tay’Veon Lake. He's one of the most exciting players I've ever seen on this level. Also, one of the fastest. If he breaks through the line or turns the corner, he's gone. No one can catch him.

It's no surprise that he's broken records.

"Tay’Veon Lake has run his way up to the top of the East and Rockford school district record books. The senior running back now has 2,964 yards rushing, putting him ahead of John Brown (2,753), the star back from the 1985 East state champion team. Lake long ago passed future NFL player Jerry Latin (2,122). He’s also passed Guilford great Montell Clanton for the all-time Rockford Public Schools rushing record. Clanton gained 2,806 yards for the Vikings in 2002 and 2003. The E-Rabs are out of the playoff race for the first time in three years, meaning Lake has just two more games to play. That should be more than enough for Lake to become just the seventh player in conference history to rush for 3,000 yards."

If you get a chance, I suggest going to one of the last games to see his skills for yourself.
