Is it just me, or does anyone else think Ron Wood could've easily been an original member of the Rolling Stones? Mick and Keith may produce under the pseudonym The Glimmer Twins, but Keith and Ronnie strike me as two-of-a-kind. Boozy, slurry, unkempt and incredibly fluid on the fretboard. However, Ronnie isn't an original Stone. In fact, he is the replacement for the replacement of the original rhythm guitarist Brian Jones.

Brian was the leader of the band early. The simple story is that Brain wasn't a songwriter. Mick and Keith were. Brian's heavy drug use began to affect him in the mid-60's as he became more estranged with his bandmates. By the time the band was working on "Let It Bleed", he was barely in the studio with the other guys. On June 9, 1969 he announced his departure from the band and three weeks later Brian Jones was found at the bottom of his swimming pool. His official cause of death was "death by misadventure."

On today's Brizz Record Bin we go back to the "Beggar's Banquet" album for "Salt of the Earth." This song features Keith playing a slide guitar, an instrument usually played by Jones up until that point. It also marks only the second time Keith was featured singing lead vocals, which he shares with Mick on this number. The video is from the 9/11 Tribute to Heroes Concert for NYC that took place shortly after the attacks of September 11, 2001.
