As far as celebrity marriages go, few can compete with Gregg Allman and Cher's wedded bliss. The two married on this day in 1975 just four days after her divorce with Sonny Bono was finalized. Nine days after marrying Allman, Cher announced she wanted another divorce. Their split was made final three and a half years later. The two had a baby boy during that time named Elijah Blue. I have always naively assumed that the two didn't get along because let's face it, if someone wants out after nine days I figured it was pretty explosive. However, one of the surprising things I learned from reading Allman's 2012 autobiography My Cross to Bear is that he and Cher are pretty good friends. In fact, Gregg had nothing but adoring things to say about his ex-wife. Dickey Betts? Not so much. Never judge a book by it's cover, but do read the book. It's a good one.

The Allman Brothers Band is releasing an expanded packaging of their classic album At the Fillmore East July 29. Titled The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings, it will include 15 previously unreleased songs. For those shows recorded in March of that year, promoter and Fillmore owner Bill Graham handpicked the band to headline the infamous venue's final night. It is routinely included on any Best Live Album list. Any list worth reading anyways.

The band is splitting up after their obligations this year and that's too bad. Pound for pound, they have been the most consistently great act I have had the pleasure to see live. I have been lucky enough to see them half a dozen times including last year at the Chicago Theater with some Eagle listeners. Two of those listeners were father and son and were able to meet Gregg at the hotel by chance just before they left for the show. They reported having a great conversation and that Gregg took a few pictures with them. I know that, because they showed me. Very cool.

Six months before the 1971 shows recorded for At the Fillmore East, the band performed for a movie Graham was putting together about the theater. Here is today's Brizz Record  Bin tune, "Dreams (I'll Never See)" from September 1970 at the Fillmore East.
