How to Reheat Leftovers
Leftovers can tasted just as good (and sometimes better) the next day if you know how to reheat them properly.
We all eat out from time to time, or order in to skip the wait at your favorite restaurant. With portions being so big, it is common to have more leftovers than you know what to do with.
I find myself reheating leftovers quite often, yet they never taste quite the same. Thankfully the world wide web and a little practice has shown me the best ways to reheat some of my favorite foods.
Pizza. Pizza is the easiest food to reheat on the planet, yet so many people do it wrong. Do not put your pizza in the microwave unless you like a soggy crust and rubbery cheese. The best way to heat your leftover pizza is by putting in on a piece of aluminum foil, in the oven for ten minutes at 450 degrees. Your cheese will be hot and bubbly and your crust will be crisped to perfection. My sweet grandma taught me this trick, and I swear by it.
Rotisserie Chicken. These awesome little birds are a huge part of my weekly meal preparations. Heating them up again is simple, and only takes 20 minutes. Readers Digest makes a great point, the key to keeping the chicken delicious is moisture. They suggest wrapping your bird tightly in tin foil. Place the bird on a baking tray and put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Yum.
Rice. This is a hand trick that really makes a difference in heating up left over rice. My brother-in-law taught me this trick and I have used it ever since. Put the desired amount of rice you would like to heat on a microwave safe plate. Next, sprinkle a few drops of water over the rice. Take a microwave safe bowl and place it on top of the rice. Microwave for 60 seconds and you have moist steaming rice ready to go!
French Fries. There is nothing worse than a cold spud. I've found the best way to heat them, is to pan fry them. Put a tablespoon or so of canola oil into a nonstick pan. Once the oil begins to smoke, add your french fries. The biggest thing to remember is to keep stirring them to make sure they are evenly coated in oil. Cook them for about 3 - 5 minutes then transfer them to a plate with a paper towel on it to catch some of the left over grease. Fries are crispy and hot again.
Pasta. There are two ways to reheat pasta. If the pasta has not been tossed with sauce, put it in a pot of boiling water for 30 seconds. Then strain. If it has been tossed with sauce, the best way to reheat is in a pan on medium heat until heated through.
Eggs. No. Don't ever reheat eggs. Just make a new one, in 45 seconds with this helpful video.
