Say it ain't so, but due to a gas shortage we may be without this amazing green chip companion this year for the 'Big Game'.

While hanging with your buddies watching whatever two teams end up playing in Super Bowl LIII, your party spread may be missing one key item, the guacamole!

In recent months the Mexican government has been trying to crack down on the extensive fuel theft. Sadly this has lead to a gas shortage in the country's main avocado producer, Michoacan.

The grower in this Mexican state is expected to ship 120,000 tons of avocados to the United States just before the biggest football game of the year.

So far only 27,000 tons of the fruit have made their way to the U.S. but fear not. Not all hope is lost.

A spokesman for the APEAM, a business association that represents Mexican avocado producers and exporters, Ramon Paz said this was three of the most important weeks of the year. This is because this is the time they ship their wares to the United States for the week of the Super Bowl.

Paz continued:

We have from now to January 24, 25 to ship all that volume. If we don’t ship it (by then), we can’t do so later,”

The hope lies in the fact that the gas shortage hasn't yet affected the exports heading here to the U.S.

Emphasis on the word "yet".

Let's keep our fingers crossed we won't have to experience the great guacamole shortage of 2019.
