WI Man Fakes Death, It Would’ve Been Easier To Get Divorced
This is not a plot to a made-for-TV movie, a man in Wisconsin actually tries to get away with faking his own death.
Wisconsin Man Fakes His Death For New Life
When I first read this story, I thought it was fake internet news. I thought there was no way someone would try this in real life. It sounds like the plot of a made-for-TV movie on the Lifetime network. I couldn't believe it was actually real.

I'm hoping someday this crime ends up on Dateline or another show like that because I really want to know more. Someone faking their death is a pretty elaborate crime. You would have to do some serious planning to pull it off.
So, here's the situation. Ryan Borgwardt lives in Green Lake County, Wisconsin with his wife and three kids. He went on a kayaking trip to Green Lake. The suspect ended up going missing. When his family didn't hear from him they called the police.
The police search team found his personal belongings including his kayak, car, wallet, fishing equipment, and more. The strange thing is they couldn't find his body. That was a big red flag so an investigation began.
The detectives discovered he had a second passport, bought airline tickets, cleared out his computer, purchased a life insurance policy, and was trying to figure out how to transfer money to an overseas bank account.
The bomb dropper was he had an internet girlfriend in Uzbekistan. I'm guessing it was a serious case of catfishing. Wouldn't it not been easier to get divorced? His family is devastated and when police catch him, he'll be going to jail for a long time.
