Winter Doesn’t Mean The End Of Golf In Rockford. The Park District Has You Covered
If part of your "Winter" routine is to pack your clubs away in the basement or out in the shed, you might want to hold off on checking that off your list.
Yes, the golf courses will be closed for the season. They might pop back open a few days in November if the weather gets unseasonably nice, but for the most part golfers usually treat the Winter months as an off-season.
All that progress you made over the year on your game will begin to atrophy over the winter months and when you go pick up a club again on that first nice day in March, the muscle memory is gone. Once again, you're starting the golf season trying to find the groove you finally fell into sometime around last October.
The best way to keep that muscle memory fresh is to work on your swing over the winter. That can be tough if you live in a house with 8-foot ceilings. And if you want to actually work on your swing while making contact with a ball, you have to buy and set up a net in your garage. You'll probably miss the net at least once, and now you have a home project on your hands.
Keep your golf game fresh this winter with the help of the Rockford Park District.
We had our friend Laura Gibbs Green on the show this morning and she told us all about what the RPD has available to you to keep your game sharp when there's snow on the ground.
Indoor Golf Practice Center
The indoor practice center has a driving range and putting green to work on your short game. Located at Sportscore Two, it opened on November 1st and will be available through April 1st, 2022.
The range is open M-F and opens at 10AM every day. They close at 930PM M-W and 3PM Thursday and Friday.
A bucket of 50 balls is $7 or you can get a monthly membership for $100 and that allows you 2 buckets per day, an excellent value.
Indoor Golf Lessons
Private lessons are available for juniors and adults. All lessons and programs are taught by PGA/LPGA members, PGA/LPGA apprentices, and RPD certified instructors.
Visit their website for pricing and to set up appointments.
Indoor Golf Simulator w/ Leagues
Sportscore 2 has 4 Full Swing Pro 2 golf/multisport simulators that will allow you to play 84 world-class golf courses.
These are awesome and in my opinion, one of the hidden treats in Rockford. It is set up right across from the Skybox bar and grill. It's the perfect replacement for your weekly foursome.
They also have simulator leagues to keep your competitive juices flowing. You can view all their leagues here.
Keep sharp over the winter with the Rockford Park District and you'll have the edge when you return to the real thing this Spring.
