Seeing This Abandoned Airplane In Illinois For The First Time

In the summer of 2020, Metallica recorded a live concert movie that was shown at drive-ins throughout the United States including several locations in Illinois. At the time, the parking lot of the Now Arena (formally Sears Centre) was set up as a temporary outdoor movie theater.

A group of friends and I purchased tickets to attend the show. We took I-90 to get there. As we were passing the Huntley exit, my buddy who travels into the suburbs quite a bit to play golf, told us to look closely to the right-hand side. Just then, we spotted an abandoned airplane parked on a farm right off the highway.

I also traveled into the suburbs often to visit my mom. Every time, I would look for the old jet. I shared the experience with any passengers. I told other friends to look out for the plane. It was a pretty crazy sight to see.

I wanted to find out the history behind the abandoned airplane off of I-90 in Illinois. I asked around, talked about it on my show, and even Googled it. I couldn't find it. Finally, I decided on my way back, I would get off the highway and check out for myself. Well, I was very disappointed on my drive in the discover it was gone. I never had the chance to find out more.

I Finally Found Some Information About This Abandoned Plane

After several months, I had just given up. Then today I finally found something. I was on YouTube and I discovered a couple of videos of the same exact abandoned airplane. Unfortunately, there were not too many details but at least I got to see it up close. I never found out why it was left there.

I did finally find out what actually became of the plane. According to some comments on the YouTube videos, the owners scrapped it. The jet was in such bad shape and had been vandalized.
