Whenever I take a moment to think about the things that make me happiest during the holiday season, time spent with family and holiday decorations are always at the top of my list. It's amazing how some pretty twinkling lights and glitter can make me forget all my worries and just enjoy the moment I am living in.

We might not be able to enjoy our typical holiday traditions the same way in 2020, but we can find new ways to safely spread joy, and I think that Stroll On State knocked it out of the park when they created this new holiday decorating competition called "Spread the Light"!

So, what exactly is "Spread the Light" all about? Here's what the Facebook event page says;

Businesses throughout Winnebago County are encouraged to decorate exteriors, interiors and storefronts with a little healthy holiday competition in mind. The best of the best in decorations and lights will have the chance to win cash prizes in three categories, including “The Griswolds” for the biggest and brightest lights, “The Real. Original.” for most original in showcasing community pride, and “The Charlie Brown” for less-is-more, minimalist
supremacy.

If I were a business owner, I would be gunning for "the Griswolds" prize, but that's just me. Now for the most important info...how you enter the competition and what you could win...

Participating businesses need to submit a photos of their decorations including their business name, contact name, business address, email address and phone number to Social@GoRockford.com by Sunday, December 13. Photos will be featured on the GoRockford Facebook page starting December 14, and that is also when public voting begins. Winners for each category will be chosen by the photos that get the most engagement/likes and will be awarded $250 in cash prizes plus a staff meal gift card up to $250 from a local restaurant.

Get to decorating, Clark, and I can't wait to see all the pictures!
