Rockford's massive downtown Christmas tree will be coming from Pecatonica this year.

With Stroll on State just a few weeks away, it's time to haul in the always locally grown tree that will be decorated with bright lights and a lot of cheer. This year's tree comes from Maurice and Mary Wagner and family in Pecatonica. And, the tree will be brought to its Christmas home in an honorable fashion.

On Tuesday morning at 7(ish) the tree will be harvested and prepped for travel. The tree will then make its way to downtown Rockford by way of a police escort. Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau explained the reason behind making the tree harvesting process, which is kind of like a family cutting down their own Christmas tree for their home.

Cutting down a tree for the holiday is a tradition for many and we want to continue making memories by sharing this tradition with our Rockford community.

Timeline:

Tuesday, November 19, 2019

7 a.m. – Tree Care Enterprises Inc., Creative Crane and Stenstrom crews will be on site and the tree harvest will begin and R.L. Leek Industries, Inc. will arrive with a trailer to transport the tree.

7:50 a.m. – Police escort will lead the tree transport crew to downtown Rockford.

8:20 a.m. – Trimming and installation of the tree at the southeast corner of West State Street and Wyman Street.

Anyone in the community that is interested in decorating the tree (or other areas of Stroll on State) can find volunteer information here.
