I personally hate traffic lights. Every day when I do the drive from bypass 20 to Guilford on Alpine, I try to count the stop lights I pass. I always lose count because there are so many, and I suffer from Blonde-ADD-What-Was-I-Doing-Squirrel Disorder.

I don't mind stop signs though, as I can usually stop... pause... count to three... and move along.

That's exactly what drivers in Rockford will be doing at these 13 traffic lights that will be replaced with stop signs:

  • 8th Street and Broadway
  • 18th Avenue and 7th Street
  • North Court and Mulberry Streets
  • North Court Street and Park Avenue
  • Michigan and Clover Avenues
  • North 3rd and Prairie Streets
  • 15th Avenue and Christina Street
  • 11th Street and Columbia Avenue
  • 7th Street and 2nd Avenue
  • 7th Street and 3rd Avenue
  • 7th Street and 4th Avenue
  • 7th Street and 5th Avenue
  • 7th Street and 6th Avenue
Rockford Register Star reports that these traffic lights will be replaced with stop signs in order to save money. Traffic lights cost between $100,000 and $150,000 while a stop sign costs roughly $300.
