Now you may have to park on opposite sides of the street everyday regardless of snow.

When first coming to Rockford this is something I didn't understand, odd-even parking. I understand that the concept is quite simple. Park your car on the odd side of the street on the odd numbered day, and opposite for even days. I get it. But it's dumb.

Seriously, it is so dumb. With the last storm we had, driving into the residential area to get to work here at Townsquare Media was frightful. Not only was I dodging cars on the street (which they had plenty of room to park in their long driveways) but the roads were barely plowed on the other side of the street. To make matters worse, the lack of plowing was so bad that the roads were dangerously slippery and icy.

Some people didn't follow suit, over 1,200 were given tickets during the last storm, and that just gave insult to injury. Had to weave through a dangerous web of ice, snow, half plow and try not to play bumper cars. Yikes!

Now that I think about it, that's probably why so many houses have huge boulders in front of them. They don't want you to drive into their house because the roads are so bad!

WIFR reports that Rockford City Council is discussing a change to the odd-even parking system. Instead, drivers would have to alternate the side of the street they park their cars on regardless of snowfall. This would be from December 1 to April 1.

Are you kidding me!? That's exactly what we want to be doing every day. Wake up at the crack of dawn and move our cars.

Isn't there something we could do to make it better? Am I the only one who feels this way?
