A new law goes into effect Thursday, which will affect all Illinois drivers.

Each May is when the time comes for me to get a new license plate sticker. I know it's coming, I have my $100 ready, yet I always wait until the last minute to purchase the darn thing and stick it on my plate. Once I order it online, the paranoia kicks in. Then finally, after a week or two of it being expired and driving around paranoid, I finally bust out the Windex and put the new vehicle registration sticker on my license plate when it arrives.

It's a constant struggle.

But starting Thursday, Illinois motorists like myself who procrastinate the sticking of the sticker process will be able to drive with ease.

WIFR reports, Secretary of State Jesse White proposed the plan to allow drivers without an up-to-date vehicle registration sticker to drive with ease.

Of course there are stipulations.

If you purchase your sticker online, you must print out the online receipt and keep it in your car while you wait for the sticker to arrive. Many motorists are like me. They do not purchase a new sticker until the last minute. This new law allows more online purchases while saving you the trip to sticker facilities.

The online-purchase receipt will only be valid for one month after the previous sticker's expiration.

Procrastinators unite!
