The process of finalizing a new teacher contract in Rockford is moving forward after a key vote over the weekend.

The agreement is not yet official, however, as one more approval is still required.

Before the contract can take effect, the Rockford Public Schools District 205 Board of Education must also vote to approve the tentative agreement. If the BOE votes in favor, the TA will officially become the new contract for REA members.
That vote represents the final procedural step in the approval process.
REA President Thanks Rockford Community for Support
REA President Claudia Marshall released the following statement after the vote:
The Rockford Education Association (REA) voted in favor of ratifying our tentative agreement. We are happy that we are moving towards finalizing this new contract that we’ve put in countless hours working on. Our members and the Rockford community have stood with us through the whole process. We are extremely grateful to have been so supported in this work that will provide a good contract not just for our teachers, but for our students. This contract makes improvements in nearly every area within our school system and will help us continue building the strong public school system our students and the Rockford community deserve.
The tentative agreement now awaits the District 205 Board of Education's vote. Residents are encouraged to watch for updates as the process moves toward a final decision.
