It's a sad day for retail in Illinois because a family-owned department store is closing after 75 years in business.

Illinois Loses Another Longtime Locally Owned Store

Though I remember there were nationally owned stores when I was a kid. I have a lot of great memories of my family supporting locally-owned businesses. They were more than just places we shopped but they were friends too.

Those stores were passed down for generations and are a big part of the community's history. Unfortunately, there comes a point where there isn't someone to take over the business. The owners have to either sell or close. Many times it's the latter. In just a moment, the place is gone forward. It's a very sad day for the customers.

Once again, an Illinois community gets some bad news. After 75 years as a family-owned store, K's Department Store on Cermak Road in Chicago is shutting its doors forever. The owners, a pair of brothers, opened the place together. Neither can run the business anymore. There are no heirs to take over, so the run is over.

This location is currently for sale. The asking price for the building is $2.2 million. I'm assuming you can just write a check. That includes five apartments above the store so you get rental property too and that's a bonus.

They have really worked hard their whole life to run a successful store. The brothers got their start by selling at the Maxwell Street Market which is very impressive. Hopefully, someone will purchase the location and reopen the iconic business.
