It's always entertaining to think of how I would spend a large lump sum of money. It's another thing when you actually have a shot at winning a big sack of cash. We're giving away $10,000 this month. You want in? Click here and enter. There are even ways to enter multiple times.

I received an email this morning from my buddy Todd Houston. Todd is a great guitar player, Rockford native and an all around cool dude. He also spends a lot of his own time and effort into the Rockford Rocked page on Facebook. Now, he wants to take it to the next level. RR wants to compile the definitive collection of Rockford music scene history. Don't get me wrong, we LOVE Cheap Trick. However, there is so much more great music that has been, is currently and will be played in this town. Todd's email described the plan and is currently looking for funding via the crowdsourcing website Go Fund Me. So it got me thinking....How would I spend ten grand?

  1. First, I would help Rockford Rocked reach their goal. They're trying to raise $1,500. As of this writing, they have $180 pledged so far. Put me down for $1,320. That leaves me with....Let's see, that's ten thousand minus 1,320...carry the one, divide by pi....and that leaves me with $8,680.
  2. Next, I would dedicate a grand to throwing a killer kegger in the back yard. Gotta enjoy some of the dough, ya know? $7,680 remaining.
  3. I was never much of a dog person. Until January 2010. That's when Molly joined the family. Molly is our boxer. A more beautiful dog I've never seen and she has more personality than most people I've met. I'm hooked. I would happily donate $2,680 to an area boxer rescue, leaving me with an even $5,000.
  4. I have lived in the stateline for just about fourteen years now, and I have met many awe inspiring people. Guys who have gone to South America for years at a time to do missionary work, kids who produce personalized documentaries for our are veterans, directors and workers from various shelters, counseling offices, food banks and pantries. Rockford and the surrounding communities have an abundance of everyday heroes. One of my heroes is Kim Addams-Bakke, the director of the Rock River Valley Pantry. Kim is always the first to point out that she is surrounded and supported by so many selfless helpers. The Rock River Valley Pantry serves almost 8,000 people each month, with 40% of that being children. I would happily give the RRVP the remaining five grand and I would be confident it would be put to great use right here in Rockford.
