Six Flags Great America in Gurnee will be paying out a $36 million dollar settlement over the next 5 years and if you visited the park between 2013-2018, you might be getting a small slice of that money.

First of all, before we get to the suit, I'd like to thank Tiktok for bringing it to my attention. I heard it there today while I was wasting yet another 30 minutes of my life (but I did find out about this and turned it into a noteworthy, decent post that will drive some traffic. So was it really wasting time? Discuss amongst yourselves.)

Second, you guys have to get on the Tiktok. This is coming from a person that despises all forms of social media and is convinced that it is the primary cause of the societal dysfunction we're currently in. You don't have to do anything on the Tok. You just make an account that involves giving them an email address, and that's it. Then you just swipe videos. The addicting/scary part of the Tok is how well it knows you. The algorithm just starts sending you videos and you swipe up when you want the next one. I guarantee you that the algorithm will make you discover an interest, condition, or hobby that you never considered. I just found out that I'm super into gardening videos. Never knew.

Will this algorithm eventually, if not already, be used for nefarious purposes? Absolutely it will and it will probably be horrible. But it's fun now, so you might as well hop in and enjoy it before it takes over the planet, you really don't have a choice.

On to the lawsuit.

It seems that Great America was scanning fingerprints of guests between the dates of Oct. 1 2013 to Dec. 31, 2018. That apparently was a big no-no due to the Illinois Biometric Privacy Act. You can read about the class action suit here.

Six Flags is saying they're innocent, but are settling out of court.

Six Flags denies these accusations and asserts that members and season pass holders were, in fact, provided with written notice. However, the parties have agreed to a settlement to resolve the claims.

If you went to Great America between October of 2013 and the end of 2018, you might be eligible to receive up to $200. You can file a claim here.

P.S. I found out how to do this on Tiktok as well. It's frightening what AI is doing already. This took me 2 minutes to do. Lumen5.com. It's all free too.
