The tallest player to ever play professional baseball has died on Sunday.

Loek van Mil 34, who was 7-foot-1 passed away Sunday due to injuries from a "fatal accident'.

At the request of his family, no further information was given.

Van Mil, who started his baseball career in his home country of Denmark, spend some time playing for the Beloit Snappers.

He pitched for them during the 2008 season. He had a 2–2 record with 3 saves and a 3.22 ERA and 42 strikeouts in his first ​44 23 innings. This had him make it to the Midwest League All-Star game.

According to MLB.com, Van Mil had been admitted to an Australian hospital last December in "critical but stable condition" after he sustained serious head injuries on a hiking trip.

Earlier in this month, Van Mil had announced his retirement and was said to be recovering from the winter accident.
