Could The Bears Leave Soldier Field?

This isn't the first time whispers about the Bears leaving the lakefront have popped up. 

This tweet from Brian Hanely of ESPN was floating around yesterday:

That tweet lead to a pretty great article from Kevin Kaduk at the Midway Minute.

I encourage you to read the whole thing but here are some highlights that stood out:

• Soldier Field has the lowest seating capacity in the NFL
• The Bears do not own Soldier Field
• If the McCaskeys, the current owners, sell the team, a new owner would probably not want to play on a rented field
• As stated before, the Bears have been rumored to be leaving downtown Chicago for about 50 years now.

It honestly sounds like economics will prevail here and the Bears will eventually find their way into a new privately-owned stadium that's somewhere other than the lakefront.

Throw in the new wrinkle of a possible casino sportsbook in a new location and it seems like only a matter of time.

Speaking of time, none of this will happen soon. The Bears are currently under a lease at Soldier Field until 2033, but we'll keep an eye on what's going on in Arlinton Heights until then.
