Winter weather is no fun.  (Except if you are a kid on a snow day from school... that rocks.)  But us grown folk, especially those who travel, can find this snow a big hassle.  It's important that you stay informed and safe!  Here's what to do:

First:  Make sure the plows can easily plow your streets.  Rockford has declared a Snow Emergency.  During this time, follow the Odd/Even Parking.  What this means is on an Odd Day (example January 3rd) park on the Odd Number of the street.  If Even Day (example January 2nd) park on the Even Number of the street.  There are important notes to remember as well:  If your street is marked as "No Parking" on one side of the street, the Snow Emergency Declaration does allow you to park there legally.  Do not assume that you can move your car when the street is plowed.  Your car must remain parked appropriately until after the Snow Emergency has been lifted.  Also, all vehicles must be moved to the correct side of the street at 8am.

Second:  Be Prepared!  Pack a bag in your car.  Some of the items you would want to have on hand are a shovel, windshield scraper and small broom, flashlight, first aid kit, water, snack food, matches and extra clothing.  There is nothing worse than being stuck on the side of the road, and your tummy growling so badly, you would be willing to eat the rubber tires.  And in all seriousness, you will need these items to survive freezing temps until rescue workers can get to you.

Third:  Don't drive like a moron.  Seriously.  Texting and driving is illegal.  Speeding is illegal.  Driving like a moron should be illegal too.  Make sure to keep extra distance between your car and the car in front of you.  Be careful with braking, and give yourself enough time to stop near traffic lights.  Turn on your headlights!

Finally:  Don't be this guy.  (Note: Viewer Discretion is Advised.)

So remember!  Be safe this winter season!
