As a parent, I'm a huge fan of kids joining a Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop at some point during their childhood. Not only do scouts meet new friends and do fun things, but they learn extremely valuable skills that literally could save a life.

Wisconsin Boy Scouts Jump Into Rescue Amtrail Train Derailment Victims

On Monday, June 27, 2022, an Amtrak Passenger Trail carrying 207 people on their way to Chicago hit a dump truck and derailed in Southern Missouri. Two people aboard the train and the driver of the dump truck were killed, and many more were injured. I can only imagine how terrifying it must have been to be on board the train at that time, but two Boy Scouts from Appleton, Wisconsin didn't let that stop them from doing what needed to be done to save others.

According to WBAY in Green Bay, Wisconsin;

Scout leaders said the scouts who weren’t injured were among the first people on the train to help render aid.

One scout from Appleton provided comfort to the driver of the dump truck, who was ejected in the crash, until the driver passed away.

Can you even imagine?!?

Sixteen scouts ranging from ages 13 to 17, and 8 adults from Boy Scout Troops 73 and 12 in Appleton, Wisconsin were on board the train and returning from a week-long backpacking trip in New Mexico when the derailment occurred. The scouts and their leaders all had to complete an advanced first aid training course before going on the trip, and I'm sure none of them ever thought they would have to put those skills to use so soon.

To fully understand the heroic measures these Scouts took yesterday, I highly recommend watching WBAY's full interview, here.
