With Spring Break approaching, many travels are getting out of Rockford and heading to the warm sunny beaches across the country.

My mom always told me that the best time to purchase a plane ticket was on Tuesdays. I believe her, as I usually find the cheapest prices then. Why? I have no idea but as the saying goes, mother is always right. It works for me.

There are a few tips and tricks from Huffington Post you can use to get the best price on your plane ticket.

1. 54 days before takeoff is when domestic airline tickets are at their lowest price.

2. If you can't get your ticket at 54 days on the dot, try to book between 112 - 21 days before your trip for the lowest possible prices.

3. If traveling during a high fly times, for example: spring break in Florida, you should book well in advance. Airlines have zero incentive to lower prices as time goes on as there is a constant demand for flights.

4. Whatever you do, don't book last minute. Some believe booking last minute tickets will save them money, although this couldn't be further from the truth. On average, last minute tickets cost $200 more seven days or less before departure.

Good luck friends. I hope you have an awesome spring break!
