Two Rockford Landmarks Being Honored by Landmarks Illinois
Rockford is a beautiful place, and two Rockford landmarks are being honored next month by Landmarks Illinois.
If you have ever been to the Prairie Street Brewhouse in Rockford, you know that it is a stunning place. Parking your boat is simple in one of their 40 secured boat slips, dinner on the deck next to the river provides peace and tranquility and after a great meal you can fill your boat's gas tank before heading out for the rest of the evening. It is an architectural wonder and has not missed the sights of Landmarks Illinois, an organization that preserves and honors Illinois' heritage and history.
The Laurent House Foundation will also be honored according to WREX. The Laurent House in Rockford was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and it is the only building ever designed by him for a person with a disability. The home is breathtaking, especially at night where the moonlight transforms the home into a dramatic work of art.
The Laurent House Foundation will be awarded for their efforts to preserve the Laurent House and Prairie Street Brewhouse will be awarded for their efforts in rehabilitating the building.
They each, along with seven other landmarks in Illinois, will receive a Richard H. Dreihaus Foundation Preservation Award, $500, a trophy and a special ceremony in Chicago on October 17.
