Two of America’s Most Delightful Desserts are Served at Illinois Restaurants
When you settle in for a big meal, the last thing I tend to think of is "What's for dessert?"
I don't know if it's only me, but I can't remember the last time I've actually ordered a dessert for myself at a restaurant.
Is it because Illinois is more known for its dining options than dessert?
Is it because my Mom used to tell me we could eat dessert at home when I would dine out with my parents as a little kid and it carried over to adulthood?
Maybe it's just because I haven't been to a restaurant that served some of the greatest desserts in America.
As much as I love to eat out, I have never been to either of these two places so that might have something to do with it too.
According to Mashed's The 22 Absolute Best Desserts In The US two of the 22 are in Illinois and totally look like a destination if you order dessert with your meal.
First up is Gibson's Bar & Steakhouse. I've been to Morton's, RPM Steak, and countless other steakhouses in Chicago but never Gibson's.
I should probably change that and here's why according to Mashed:
Theatrically named 'The Meaning of Life,' Gibsons' towering behemoth of a cake weighs a whopping 6-pounds per slice. Stacked with chocolate mousse, banana, raspberry, and whipped cream, this enormous dessert arrives at the table with a sturdy steak knife plunged in the top (via Food Network)
Gibson's is located at 1028 North Rush Street in Chicago.
Next up is a place I haven't heard of until today called Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits.
I should probably remember this joint because, wow, this dessert seems amazing.
Chicago is serving up one of the country's most poised Key lime pie slices, with a lusciously smooth key lime custard, studded with aromatic freshly grated lime zest and set in a homemade graham cracker crust.
Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits is at 2051 North California Avenue in Chicago.
If you're wondering what you need to order first at both of these places, I believe it's totally acceptable to skip the meal and go straight for dessert.
