Turn It Up To 11: Music Can Repel Mosquitoes

As we learned the other day, all of this rain is going to lead to a rise in mosquitoes.

Well, now thanks to science you can repel those blood-sucking bugs just by cranking out the tunes!

A study conducted by researchers in Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, and Thailand found that mosquitoes are not fans of electronic dance music.

I can't say I blame them, I'm not a fan either.

In their study, they used one specific song, Skrillex's "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" and they played the song for only half of the mosquitoes in the study. The other half had no music.

This is what they found out:

• Blood feeding activity had a low occurrence when music was played
• Adults "entertained" with music mated far less than their peers who weren't listening to anything
• Females "entertained" with the music attacked hosts much later and less often than their non-entertained peers

If you like me are not a fan of dubstep, then maybe us rockers in the Stateline should conduct our own experiment with music and keeping the bugs at bay.
