A roundabout is a simple concept, that Rockford has issues with.

Three years later the roundabout at Main and Auburn is still giving local body shops plenty of work.

According to My Stateline the accident totals at the Main and Auburn roundabout look like this:

  • In the first six months of 2012 =  3 accidents
  • In 2014 = 86 accidents
  • In 2015 = 91 accidents
  • In 2016 = 76 so far

There are Yield signs, and it is a circle. The concept is simple people.

I once "almost" got pinned to the inside by an unnamed soda delivery truck. He didn't yield and entered the roundabout at around 25 MPH.

Alderman Tom McNamara was quoted as saying:

Every time you go through, you certainly have to be very cautious, there's always someone who's not slowing down one bit it seems.

Are you sure, sir? A minimum 71 accidents every year? Where is the disconnect here. This is Drivers Ed simple, look left look right, proceed with caution. I can hear Mr Ludaking my old Drivers Ed teacher no, "way to go stupid".
