Here's a look at some pros and cons of legalizing marijuana in Illinois.

Unless there's some drastic change in the next couple of months, legal recreational cannabis is coming to the Land of Lincoln. Like it or not, you're going to have to deal with it.

You can easily make a "Pros and Cons" list about it. I believe the "Pros" outnumber the "Cons," but there are some issues to be concerned with.

From the Illinois Sheriffs' Association Facebook page.

"Roads are less safe and accidents increase in states with legal pot. Illinois must not repeat the mistakes of other states. Before legalization is passed, the proposal must have real deterrence and penalties for driving under the influence of drugs."

They shared an article from cnn.com,

"States that legalized recreational weed see an increase in car accidents."

I do understand, like drunk driving, people will be tempted to drive while "high."

This sounds like a nationwide problem.

"Law enforcement needs additional tools and advanced training to detect impaired drivers before they crash, regardless of the impairing drug they're using."

Now, that is a big "Con," but here's a huge "Pro."

According to newstarget.com,

"Opioid-related deaths decrease by 25 percent in states with medical marijuana program."

The abuse of prescription pills is a major issue. Anything to help that deadly problem is definitely a big "Pro."

Just remember, pot is good for pain but not for driving.
