The Holy Grail of Star Wars Toys is Up for Auction
I still have my original Star Wars toys from when I was a kid. Only Chewbacca has BB's in his chest, the Stormtroopers are yellow and missing limbs, and Yoda's head has been missing for an undetermined amount of time. There's now a collectors item up for auction, taken much better care of than any of mine.
Being called the "Holy Grail" of Star Wars Memorabilia, one of 30 original Boba Fett action figure with a rocket firing jetpack is up for auction. The item was part of a prototype group that was offered in a rebate promotion.
People who bought a Star Wars toy post-"A New Hope" but pre-"Empire Strikes Back" received an info card on Boba Fett, and a mail in rebate to get an action figure of the not yet introduced bounty hunter.
When the toy's came time to ship, the backpack's spring loaded missile projectile was deemed a choking hazard, and was recreated without a firing missile.
The toy will be auctioned at Hake's Auction House in two weeks, and is expected to sell for more than $250,000.
Boba Fett was first introduced in "A Wookie Holiday," the Star Wars Christmas Special disavowed by George Lucas due to it's poor quality.
