I Might Have Found The Best Asian Food In Rockford
I have so many favorite foods. Growing up with my mother's side of the family being Italian, I was treated to so many wonderful Italian foods. In the 815, I had so many choices on where to get my Italian kick when I didn't feel like making it. Now my girlfriend of over 20 years is Asian, so in that time, I also have tasted so many different homemade Asian foods and just like Italian, I have my favorites such as Rock-Pho'd, Pho Square, Sisters Thai Cafe, and another new favorite Ramen and Tea.
Well, my girlfriend Lory mentioned seeing this new place from watching a Tik-Tok video and the location is called Sticky Rice Bites, 298 N Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61107, A new family-owned Lao and Asian fusion restaurant offering authentic cuisine and culture. Lory said the food looked wonderful and noted the young woman, who turned out to be the daughter of the owners made these videos and said, let's try it, and I was game so we did.
When we walked in we were welcomed with these huge smiles and they led us to a table. The restaurant was so clean and welcoming. Then, the young woman who made these Tik-Tok was our server, and she was also so friendly and welcoming.
I ordered the Beef Pho House Special, Steamed Thin Rice Noodles in an Aromatic Beef Broth with Sliced Beef Flank, Brisket, and Meatballs. The only thing I decided not to include in my Pho was Tripe. My girlfriend had the Pad See Ew. Stir Fried Chinese Broccoli, with Beef over Wide Noodles and two egg rolls. My girlfriend also ordered one of their Boba Drinks.
The egg rolls came out first. They were fantastic, and flavorful with a side of sweet and sour sauce.
Then came the meals and of course, we shared our meals with each other. The Pho, was spot-on fantastic, and full of flavor. The broth was incredible, and the meats were so tender that it melted in your mouth. The only thing I have to say that I didn't like about my Pho was when it was gone. It was that good.
Next, the Pad See Ew. That dish has always been a favorite of ours so I was hopeful that this would not disappoint and it did not. So many levels of flavors were there along with a huge portion.
We both looked at each other after this meal and thought, did we just experience our new favorite Asian restaurant? This food is made with love and passion. I know all food and taste is subjective but that being said, I highly recommend Sticky Rice Bites, 298 N Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61107.

The History of Pho: A Culinary Icon of Vietnam
Pho, Vietnam's national dish, is a harmonious blend of culture, history, and flavor. This beloved noodle soup originated in northern Vietnam in the early 20th century, during the French colonial period. The dish is thought to have been influenced by the French pot-au-feu (a slow-cooked beef stew) and Chinese-style noodle soups.
In its earliest form, pho was sold by street vendors who carried mobile soup stations on their shoulders. These vendors offered a simple dish made of rice noodles, beef, and broth, flavored with star anise, cinnamon, and other spices. The popularity of pho quickly grew, evolving into a cultural staple.
The Vietnam War played a pivotal role in pho's global journey. Refugees fleeing the war brought their cherished recipes to new lands, introducing pho to an international audience. Today, pho is celebrated worldwide for its unique flavors and comforting warmth.
What makes pho so good? It's the balance of textures and flavors: the richness of the broth, the tenderness of the meat, the chewiness of the rice noodles, and the freshness of herbs and garnishes. Pho is more than just a meal; it’s a sensory experience, inviting diners to customize their bowl to perfection.
What’s in Pho?
Here’s what typically makes up a delicious bowl of pho:
- Broth: A fragrant base made by simmering beef or chicken bones with spices.
- Noodles: Flat rice noodles that are soft and slippery.
- Protein: Thinly sliced beef, chicken, or tofu.
- Garnishes: Fresh herbs (basil, cilantro), lime wedges, bean sprouts, and chili slices.
- Condiments: Hoisin sauce, fish sauce, and sriracha for added flavor.
