Rockford Says ‘Yes’ To New Love’s Travel Stop with One Condition
The City of Rockford approved a Love's Travel Stop near Bypass 20 with a condition that might attract other businesses... because that's what we need, another gas station. In all seriousness, a Love's Travel Stop will pop up near Bypass 20 and South Main Street by 2021. Construction will begin in April.
The condition, according to WTVO, is that Love's Travel builds a road in hopes of bringing new businesses.
As part of the agreement to build, the City of Rockford asked Love’s for the road, which will begin at South Main and go east. Although the truck stop will initially fund the project, the city will reimburse the company through a tax increment finance (TIF) district. The city says Love’s building the roadway and improving the intersection will require less investment by the city in the future.
Currently, there are two gas stations nearby but they aren't directly next to 20. The deal was done when the suit and ties and Love's agreed on one specific condition.
