Wisconsin Town Has Major Rat Problem

I still remember the very first time I saw a real live rat out in public. I was taking the train to Wrigley Field for a Cubs game. My friends and I were waiting for the next one to arrive. We were at one of the underground stations downtown. There were a bunch of them running along the track.

I knew there was a rat problem in Chicago but I had never seen them out in public like that. I did kind of freak me out at first but I figured that kind of thing happens in big cities. There are so many people and a lot of garbage, there isn't a lot they can do to stop it.

The residents of Waukesha have been trying to get the city's attention about their rat problem. One person killed twenty-one of them in just three days. That just sounds disgusting. The rodents are destroying homes and vehicles plus cause a serious health risk.

The city says it's the homeowners' problem to take care of. An exterminator says that something needs to be done on a larger scale before the rats take over the whole city. It makes me sick just thinking about it.
