The most popular restaurant chain in Illinois has started opening a new style of building to help serve its customers better and faster.

New Style Of Portillo's Restaurants Opening In Illinois

I will always feel a connection with Portillo's. We are both from the same hometown in Illinois, that's Villa Park. The popular chain started as just a little hot dog cart back in those days. My mom has told me stories about going there as a kid.

I remember riding my bike to the small little restaurant back when I was growing up. It's been a really cool thing to watch. They slowly added locations around Illinois. Now they have almost 100 spots in 10 states and still growing. I would've never thought Portillo's would become this big of a chain.

One thing Portillo's has really perfected is their drive-thru. It's a machine. When the competition has customers sitting in their cars for a long time. Their staff is getting the cars out quickly. The whole thing is pretty darn impressive.

Portillo's knows how to read the room. They know their customers' eating habits have changed. Those people don't have as much free time anymore and are always on the go. No one has the extra time for dining in. They want their food to go and fast.

To meet the demand of their customers. Portillo's has designed an all-new restaurant. It's a pick-up-only location. The full menu is still available. The building has two separate drive-thru windows. They take cards only, no cash.

There is one other feature for these locations. If you like to order in advance online, there is a small inside pick-up area for your food. It will be interesting on how well it works and if that style becomes a new trend in the industry.
