The Best Places In Illinois To Order A Chicago-Style Hot Dog
If there's one thing I know, it's hot dogs. I grew up in the town (Villa Park) where Portillo's was started. Not just in the city, but all over the suburbs, there were little mom-and-pop hot dog stands all over the place. There were so many good ones; my friends and I would switch off which ones we would go to. You could usually get a great deal on two hot dogs, a bag of fries, and a fountain drink for just a couple of bucks. That was the perfect lunch for us kids in the neighborhood.

According to Ever After In The Woods...
There’s a special kind of joy in biting into a hot dog that actually snaps back, that little pop of the casing telling you this one was made the right way.
Somewhere in Illinois, a handful of counters and tiny stands have been quietly perfecting that snap for years, piling on toppings that turn a simple lunch into something you keep thinking about.

Like most things in life, things unfortunately change. A lot of those small corner hot dog stands are gone now. There are still a few left out there keeping the dream alive. Whenever I'm making a trip into the city, I have a chance to check one out; I'll usually make a stop. If you want to know some legendary hot dog joints, check these out.
