Travel Back To 1975 With A Look Inside Wisconsin Dells’ Storybook Gardens
Up until 2010, families made Storybook Gardens part of their adventure in Wisconsin Dells. The attraction opened in 1956 and was described by Only In Your State as "a convenient escape from the bustling atmosphere of the rapidly expanding Wisconsin Dells."
Like many of the attractions in the Dells, there were plenty of photo ops inside Storybook Gardens. You can bet there were a lot of bellbottoms and huge sideburns in many of the pictures taken there. (You'll see proof in some of the images below.)
The park was a seasonal attraction, opened typically a few weeks in May through October.
Where was Storybook Gardens located?
It was located at 1500 Wisconsin Dells Parkway.
What was inside the park?
Like the name of the attraction, the park was filled with fairytales and other stories from many of our childhoods brought to life, including actors portraying characters in books. Inside guests were surrounded by more than two-dozen exhibits, farm animals, and a miniature train. To add to the experience were well-maintained landscapes, gardens, and ponds.
Is any of the property still standing today?
The park closed in 2010 and, in 2011, the recognizable entrance/exit to the park was used for firefighter training exercises.
There is a Facebook account for Storybook Gardens but nothing has been posted since 2013. (You can find it here.)
Get ready for a blast from the past.
The park may be gone but memories last a lifetime, and so do videos. Check out some of the pictures shared in a circa-1975 video.
