An Illinois gas station turned into a scene from a wild west movie when gunfire started in broad daylight after a man was apparently cut off in the parking lot.

Report of shots fired at Rockford convenience store

According to the press release from the Rockford Police Department, officers responded to the Stop N Go on Charles Street on Friday afternoon (3/31) around 1:10 pm for a report of shots fired.

When they arrived on the scene, RPD was told that a man driving a box truck pulled out of the c-store in front of a white van, and a man inside the van began to fire on the truck striking it in the front passenger door and window.

Van involved in shooting at gas station found hours later

Later on Friday night (3/31), officers from the Rockford Police Department located the van and executed a vehicle stop around 11:05 pm in the area of N. Church and Napoleon Streets.

Officers took the driver into custody and identified him as 32-year-old Anthony Sago of Rockford. Sago has been charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
  • Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
  • Possession of a Firearm
  • Criminal Damage to Property

According to the RPD press release, these charges against Sago are "merely accusations" and he is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
