Well, this was more than a little unexpected. There are at least 7 retailers who have announced they will be closed for a 24-hour period in Missouri during a time when they were previously open.

To say that 2024 has been a challenging year already for brick and mortar retail stores is an understatement. That's one reason why I was (pleasantly) surprised that there are at least 7 stores that have announced they will be closing for one whole day at the end of March in Missouri.

Why are these Missouri big box stores closing at the end of March?

In case you've forgotten, Sunday, March 31, 2024 is also Easter Sunday.

USA Today shared the news that these retail stores will be closed in Missouri on that day.

The USA Today story also mentions that TJ Maxx, Trader Joe's and HomeGoods stores will be closed for the Easter Sunday holiday.

This is not a comprehensive list as more stores are announcing that they will allow their employees to spend that Sunday with their families.

I find it very refreshing that in an industry that has been hit hard by the dynamics of more people doing online shopping that these retailers in Missouri are willing to lose a day of sales to do the best thing for their workers. Well done and let's hope this is an ongoing trend moving forward.
