What makes something a landmark in Rockford?

Is State Street Station a landmark in Rockford?

Before you make a quick judgement because it had exotic dancers, let's think about it.

Anyone that has spent time in Rockford and drove on East State Street between Alpine Road and Fairview Avenue, knows State Street Station when they pass it. It's as recognizable as CherryVale Mall, Symbol, or the BMO Harris Bank Center.

According to a Rockford Register Star article, owners David and Sherry Flynn have closed down the business in May after 40 years. That's a long time to own any business, though it hasn't always been State Street Station.

They were going to reopen the place as a video gaming bar without the girls dancing in bikinis. They changed their mind and decided to spend more time with family.

The building is currently available for lease.

State Street Station probably doesn't deserve landmark status. Like it or not, it's part of the history of the Miracle Mile of State Street in Rockford. People know the building and it was around for many years.
