Check out this interview with the bass player from Cheap Trick, Tom Petterson, to discuss the new album.

Discovering Cheap Trick

My dad was big into Rock music. I remember him listening to his 8-track tape player in his car, vinyl on the stereo, and of course, the radio.

I grew up on great music. One of the bands I heard on the airwaves was Cheap Trick. I really liked their songs.

Cheap Trick On TV

It took a while for me to see what the band even looked like.  My first experience was on a show called "Kids Are People Too." It aired on Saturday mornings along with cartoons.

I found the clip from their appearance.

First Time Live

The very first time I saw Cheap Trick live in concert was opening for Ratt on December 30th, 1986 at the Rosemont Horizon (now the Allstate Arena). They were out on "The Doctor" Tour.

From setlist.fm, here is what they played that night.

  1. Hello There
  2. Baby Loves to Rock
  3. I Want You to Want Me
  4. If You Want My Love
  5. California Man
  6. Ain't That a Shame
  7. Tonight It's You
  8. She's Tight
  9. Dream Police
  10. Surrender
  11. Goodnight Now

That is a pretty good opening set. I have always been a big fan of the tune "Tonight, It's You" so I was excited that it was part of the show.

Meeting The Band

The first time I met the band was in the spring of 1994. They did a CD release party and autograph signing at Media Play to promote their new album, "Woke Up With A Monster.

Interviews

Through the years, I have interviewed Rick Nielsen a handful of times. Daxx Nielsen is a regular on my show. I have never talked to Robin Zander.

Finally Tom

I finally got the opportunity to interview Tom Petersson, the bass player, so I was pretty darn excited about it.

If you missed it, check it out now.
