Is Your Mail Safe With Illinois Thieves Breaking Into Post Office
Do you remember when thieves would just steal packages off of your front porch, now they're breaking into post offices.
Illinois' History Of Stolen Mail
Unfortunately, Illinois has a long history of mail being stolen through the years. In the beginning, it was thieves grabbing letters out of mailboxes. Also, sometimes evil postal workers would steal things they thought were valuable or contained money. Then the "porch pirates" came around. They started taking packages right from homes after it was delivered.

It was almost like these criminals were getting impatient waiting for the deliveries. They started stealing straight from the vehicles. Sometimes sticking up postal carriers. The armed robberies even turned into carjacking a few times. Don't forget, the suspects like to break into the mail drop boxes throughout towns too. Some cities have completely removed them. It's gotten to be a dangerous job. Fighting the weather elements was bad enough but this has gotten ridiculous.
Thieves Break Into Illinois Post Office
Now, it seems these thieves are taking their craft to an all-new devious level. They've decided to skip a bunch of steps and just break into the post office itself. I guess it's a pretty smart move to eliminate the middleman and go straight for the source. It makes you wonder if our mail will ever be safe.
Recently, thieves broke into the Thompson Center post office location in Chicago's Loop area. Sometime just after midnight, a group of almost twenty suspects busted into the building by breaking glass entrances. Surveillance footage caught the burglars on video wandering around the premises. The United States Post Office and local police are working together to solve the crime. At this point, they aren't sure what has been stolen.
