Working At The Post Office In Illinois Is A Difficult Job

When I was growing up, one of my friends in the neighborhood had a dad that was a mailman. I remember him talking about how difficult of a job it was. You're outside battling the elements. Think about how few perfect weather days there are each year. Not many, that's for sure. The majority of them walk their routes. Plus, the mail never stops. It just keeps on coming

Working As A Mail Carrier Has Become A Dangerous Job

I don't know if you've been paying attention but being a postal worker has become a dangerous job. I'm not even talking about dogs or stormy weather. Mail carriers have become easy targets for criminals. They don't even wait for the mail to be delivered. The suspects are going straight up to the vehicles and actually holding up the employees. It's pretty scary to think about.

It has become a more frequent crime in Illinois. Thieves are committing armed robbery against postal workers. It just recently happened again. The latest incident occurred in the West Ridge neighborhood in Chicago.  Luckily, no one was hurt. The local police were actually able to track down the suspect and send him to jail. Help for this major problem could be on the way.

The U.S. Postal Service is replacing tens of thousands of antiquated keys used by postal carriers and installing thousands of high-security collection boxes to stop a surge in robberies and mail thefts, officials said Friday.

The announcement came days after the National Association of Letter Carriers expressed outrage as The Associated Press reported that nearly 500 postal carriers were robbed last year.
