Illinois Food Products That Cost More Than One Gallon Of Gas
Ya know, I got to thinking the other day about how expensive gas is in the country right now. We're all freaking out about it because we're starting to remember when gas used to be CHEAP CHEAP.
Instead of me telling you the boring news about gas, I thought it'd be fun to give you a visual of what one gallon of gas ($5.40) in Illinois could've gotten you in more recent years compared to now. Probably sometime in 2019 I was only paying $25 to fill up an entire tank of gas. ENTIRE TANK. Now, I'm paying an average of 56 bucks!!!
Clearly, inflation has shocked the world. Not only has gas gone up, but literally everything you can think of has gotten expensive. It sucks. I'm just out here trying to survive along with the rest of the country.
EGGS
Let's start with eggs. We know that organic anything is going to be generally more expensive than a regular carton of eggs. Example: a dozen eggs in 2019 were .99 cents, now they're $2.39. So, you have a choice today: one gallon of gas OR two dozen organic eggs?
MAYONNAISE
As a mayonnaise lover, I am pretty upset by this. You used to be able to get 2 big jars of mayonnaise for around 5 bucks. Today, because a gallon of gas in Illinois is around $5.40 and prices have skyrocketed, you couldn't even afford one jar!
PACKS OF WATER BOTTLES
My gas station HAD a 24-pack of full size water bottles for $2.99, now it's $6.99. Nearly double the price for the same amount of water. SAD.
With $5.40 (cost of a gallon of gas) you could've gotten a 24-pack and a few other snacks back then. Today? Not even an entire pack of water bottles!
HAWAIIAN ROLLS
Hawaiian rolls used to be BOGO sometimes and you could get two 12-packs for 4 bucks. Now one pack is like 6 bucks!!! So much for stocking up for all my summer cookouts!
It's pretty crazy to see how much we used to pay for things and took it all for granted. I'd be so thankful to go back to those prices like everybody else in the country. When will we see prices drop? Who knows!
