I remember there was a guy that lived in the same dorm as me my freshman year of college. He was walking back to his room after a party when he came across an empty vehicle running in a driveway. He made a bad decision and decided to take a joyride in the vehicle.

The car belong to a pizza delivery driver, who was bringing an order up to a customer and left the vehicle running. The college student ended up getting arrested for auto theft and spent some time in jail.
I believe this might've been a similar situation. An ambulance was parked at a Portillo's in Illinois. The driver was in the back of the vehicle doing some work, so he just kept it running. Noticing the vehicle was running with no one sitting up front, the suspect jumped in and took off.

An ambulance was stolen from the parking lot of a Portillo's restaurant in Niles Tuesday afternoon, leading to a police chase on Interstate 294.
According to the Niles Police Department, an employee of the private ambulance transport service that owns the ambulance was in the back of the vehicle when the incident occurred.
Niles police said they received a call at around 3:54 p.m. Tuesday, regarding an ambulance being stolen from the Portillo's Restaurant at 8832 W. Dempster Street, a man had entered the ambulance, which was running and occupied by the employee, and drove away from the restaurant without consent.
