House to Vote on Removing Cannabis from Controlled Substance List
Even though marijuana is legal here in the Land of Lincoln, it still remains on the Controlled Substances List.
This month the House is planning on voting to remove cannabis from that list and in doing so erasing some marijuana criminal records.
The bill that is up for vote will not legalize weed all over, that will be left up to the state to decide. Currently, marijuana is legal in 11 states. including Illinois.
What this will do however is historically reduce legal penalties related to cannabis.
This vote marks this first like it in trying to remove weed from the list where it is currently listed as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act.
Mystateline.com weighs in further on whether we could see this being passed or not.
