Illinois' World Famous Burger Earns Two Major Milestones

I'm a huge burger fan. You can never go wrong with a good burger. I love to make them on my grill but I'm also a fan of going out to restaurants to see how other people prepare them because no two burgers are alike.

There are several famous restaurants in our state. I'm really lucky because there are many amazing burger places throughout Illinois too. It would be almost impossible to pick a favorite. If I had to choose one restaurant that has celebrity status along with tasty food, there is one that sticks out in my mind.

That world-famous burger joint in Illinois is called The Billy Goat Tavern. It's one of my favorites. It started out as a little restaurant located on Lower Michigan Avenue. Now, it's a chain with a few locations in the Chicago area.

Even if you've never eaten there, I would guess there's a good chance you're familiar with the place. The Billy Goat Tavern was spoofed on Saturday Night Live during the popular  "Cheezborger, Cheezborger" skit.

The Billy Goat Tavern is also famous because the owner tried to bring his goat to a Chicago Cubs game and was denied entry so he cursed the team. It took the ball club over 100 years to win a World Series Championship after that.

Time Out

Recently, "The Goat" had two big moments. The first one is that they're celebrating their 90th anniversary this year. That's huge for a restaurant considering how many go out of business every year.

The second honor is that the chain's location in O'Hare Airport was just named the second-best airport bar in the entire United States. That's a big deal, especially considering all the competition. Congrats to the Billy Goat Tavern.
