I have friends and family members who have fought in the front lines for our country, our freedom and for the America we know today.

Many of them have suffered and continue to suffer from PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The smallest trigger can bring back intense memories of the dangerous events they have been a part of. This can result in horrific nightmares, physical and emotional distress and sometimes, the worst outcome you could imagine.

According to WREX, Trish Rooney and Stan McGroarty have decided to do something to help combat PTSD for our veterans right here in Rockford. They are using the power of music to heal.

Guitars For Vets was originally founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Guitars For Vets is...

...a guitar instruction program aimed at providing Veterans struggling with physical injuries, PTSD and other emotional distress a unique supportive program. G4V pursues its mission to share the healing power of music by providing free guitar instruction, a new acoustic guitar and a guitar accessory kit in a structured program run by volunteers, primarily through the Department of Veterans Affairs facilities and community-based medical centers.

With the power of music, 'Guitars 4 Vets' hopes to give the Rockford area the power of music to fight PTSD.

If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD and you think they would be interested in this program, contact Trish Rooney at g4vrockfordil@gmail.com.
